An Open Letter to Nicholas Sparks

An Open Letter to Nicholas Sparks:

In a moment of weakness I gave in and watched your latest movie “The Best of Me” last night.

I think it was because James Marsden is so cute and it went to my head. Somehow, I must have convinced myself that maybe it wouldn’t be a typical Nicholas Sparks movie. Maybe I ate something funny at dinner, too. I can’t really explain it.

Anyhoo, let me congratulate you for standing firm on your foundations, book after book, movie after movie, year after year. You’ve found a formula for success and you never deviate. That takes a lot of conviction. Or maybe it doesn’t. Okay, it takes no conviction at all, you’re right. Either way…it’s working for you. It must be, because someone keeps letting you make movies, and people like me keep having moments of “Doh!”

It’s my fault for being the fool. For thinking, “Maybe, just this once, everyone won’t die in the end and it won’t be a big steaming pile of gooey sentiment.”

Boy are my cheeks red.

But, none the less, I’ve got 8 hours before my rental runs out. I’m going to go back and rewatch the shirtless scenes with Marsden and Luke Bracy (who plays the young Dawson) cuz they’re hot and I’m a cougar. And for $3.99, I got to do something to make sure I get my money’s worth.

Luke Bracy

And because RAWR!

Yup. I listened to the audiobook of this because it was free at the library and because I read a sparks book every 10 years. It’s like giving birth. You forget that your tears will be jerked. There will be a twist and you will feel dirty. I figure I will watch half the movie just for mars den.
